RF microneedling, or radiofrequency microneedling, is a minimally invasive procedure aimed at teaching your skin to heal itself. Fine lines, wrinkles, acne scars, and other skin imperfections are caused in part due to low levels of collagen. As we age, our bodies produce less of it than in our youth. It’s possible to restore lost collagen with fillers and other treatments on the market, but radiofrequency microneedling stimulates your body to produce it!
What Is the Procedure?
When you undergo microneedling, your trained skincare expert will use tiny, fine needles to prick your skin and create small wounds in the top layer of your skin. Radiofrequency microneedling adds in radiofrequency waves. They’re generated by an LED light and produce thermal energy.
Essentially, the combination of tiny needles and radiofrequency waves prompt your body to respond as if it’s healing a wound. It ramps up the production of collagen, which can fill in fine lines and wrinkles, along with healing stubborn skin problems like old acne scars and large pores. Rather than add in something or cover up an issue, microneedling prompts your body to take care of it itself. It’s more like a helping hand (or many ultra-small helping hands) than anything.
What to Expect
Because the procedure creates many small wounds in the skin, expect a bit of discomfort. Usually, things are back to normal within 24 hours but prepare for a short amount of downtime just after your procedure. For the best procedure possible, there are a few things to avoid before microneedling.
- Retin A
- Retinol
- Vitamin A Treatments
- Other topical medications
- Blood thinners (one week prior to treatment)
Following your treatment, it’s highly recommended that you do not use any active skincare for at least 24 hours and avoid direct sunlight, swimming, or activity that could cause sweating.
If you continue to experience discomfort after 24 hours or it feels more intense, reach out to your doctor or skincare expert with any questions. In general, people recover from radiofrequency microneedling quickly and without issue.
Is Radiofrequency Microneedling Right for You?

by Mia Valleskey | Feb 1, 2022 | EMSCULPT
EMSCULPT is a type of body contouring procedure that utilizes a special device to help burn fat and build muscle. This FDA-approved device will cause the muscles to contract more than someone could do on their own, which helps with muscle mass and fat loss. It’s a remarkable device, and it could be just what you have been looking for to work on those stubborn areas. Of course, you probably still have a few questions about the device and the procedure.
What Is the Procedure Like?
The treatments with the device simply cause muscle contractions that are stronger than what you could do on your own. The device is secured to the area that’s being treated, and then it can start, simple as that. Most of the time the procedures will take between 20 and 40 minutes to complete, but it can vary.
Does the Treatment Hurt?
This is a common question when people undergo any sort of treatment. Fortunately, you will find that the treatment is not going to cause you any pain or discomfort. If you do, you can let me know and I can adjust the intensity of the treatment.
How Much Recovery Time Is Needed?
One of the best things about the device and treatment is that it is non-invasive. It doesn’t require any recovery time at all. You can head in for the treatment and get back to your normal day as soon as you are done. Sometimes, my patients might feel some soreness in their muscles, but this is mild and will not affect their ability to function.
What Are the Risks?
EMSCULPT has been tested to ensure that it is safe. As mentioned, it has been approved by the FDA, so you should not have to worry about any risks or side effects when you choose to use this treatment.
When Will Results Be Noticeable?
The results can be felt as soon as you do the first treatment. The initial results will only get better and better. Most of the time, my patients start to see visible results three months after the treatment, and the results can keep improving for up to six months. Results will typically last for six months to a year before another treatment is needed. Keep in mind that living healthy with the right food and exercise helps to keep those results.
EMSCULPT is a fantastic procedure that can help many people to reduce the amount of fat they have on problem areas of their body. Given the fact that it is a safe procedure and there aren’t any downsides, it may be worth trying for you. If you’re looking for EMSCULPT treatment, be sure to call me to set up your next appointment.
